The Commissioner's Burden
Tyrone's Journey
Tyrone Scott, in Marriage Unrest, is a man’s journey defined by his seasoned detective background to his recent appointment as the newest Philadelphia Police Commissioner.
He foolishly believes that a change of scenery can fix his deep-seated emotional wounds. His character is anchored by a sense of pride and duty.
Tyrone’s arc is a humbling one. He enters the story trying to control the narrative by planning a road trip to save his marriage. However, when he and his wife stumble into an active crime scene, his traditional power is stripped away.
For the first time in years, Tyrone is forced to follow his wife’s lead. It’s a terrifying prospect for a man used to being the alpha in the room.
Marriage Unrest explores the theme that a shield can also be a wall that keeps a partner out. When the couple is taken hostage, Tyrone learns brute force isn’t always the best way to show power.
Tyrone finally realizes that the badge doesn’t make the man, but the man’s ability to admit fault can save a marriage.
